  • Clear jar or tall glass

  • ½ cup water

  • 2 tablespoons baking soda

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • Red and blue food coloring

  • ¼ cup vinegar

  • Spoon or stick for stirring

  • Tray or plate (to catch overflow)

  • Printable worksheet or blank paper

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. SETUP & PREDICTION

  • Fill the jar halfway with water.

  • In a separate cup, mix 2 tablespoons of oil and a few drops of red and blue food coloring.

2. OBSERVE THE LAYERS

  • Gently pour the oil and food coloring mixture into the jar.

  • Watch what happens.

    3. MAKE IT FIZZ!

  • Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the jar.

  • Slowly pour in the vinegar.

  • Observe the reaction.
